Sara M. Johnson, FACHE, Director of IU Executive Education and Clinical Associate Professor
Sara Johnson is Clinical Associate Professor for the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and Director of Indiana University Executive Education. Professor Johnson teaches Graduate and Executive courses in organizational leadership for O’Neill and the Fairbanks School of Public Health. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), is a past member of the Board of Governors, and now serves on various committees.She holds a bachelor’s degree in health services management (BSHSM) as well as her master of health administration (MHA) degree from Indiana University, and has pursued doctoral studies at Trinity Seminary.
Professor Johnson teaches courses in executive leadership, organizational behavior, and values and ethics in organizational leadership. Professor Johnson also consults with organizations in leadership development and organizational planning and is an Executive Coach for healthcare and nonprofit leaders. Her areas of expertise include executive leadership, organizational behavior and development, healthcare and nonprofit leadership, governance and strategic planning. She is the recipient of several awards from ACHE including the local chapter’s 2011 Platinum Award for Outstanding Service to the field of Health Management. Other awards received from ACHE include the Distinguished Service Award and the Exemplary Service Award, the highest level of service to ACHE. In 2016 Professor Johnson was awarded a Prestigious External Affairs Recognition as well as an External Achievement Award from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Additionally, Professor Johnson received a “Favorite Professor” Award from student athletes in 2011, 2014, and 2017. Professor Johnson serves as an advisor to university faculty and leadership and speaks to various community organizations on effective governance and leadership. Johnson is a member of the Indiana Healthcare Executives Network. Johnson is also a member of several professional organizations including the Association of Universities Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
As Director of The O’Neill School’s Executive Education, Professor Johnson leads a team of over 50 faculty and staff who provide the highest level of graduate and executive education, leadership development and strategic organizational consulting. Executive Education’s programs are offered locally, nationally, and internationally and serve public administration, nonprofit, and healthcare clients and students.
